Former International Boxing Federation (IBF) world lightweight champion Richard Oblitey Commey (30-3, 27 KOs) will have to surmount the biggest obstacle standing his way of becoming a two time world champion in Vasiliy Lomachenko (15-2,11KOs) on Saturday December 11, at the Madison Square Garden

The Ghanaian in an interview expressed his respect for the Ukrainian pugilist Lomachenko who also lost his belts in Teofimo Lopez.

“It will be an honour sharing the ring with him [Lomachenko], but as soon as the first bell goes it will be him standing in the way of my dream to become a world champion again.”

However, Commey believes the Lomachenko showdown will be the next best thing to a world title bout.

“It’s like fighting for a world title without the belts, We are both highly rated in most of the sanctioning bodies and we are headlining at the MSG.”

Meanwhile, the Ghanaian is aware of the task ahead and fully focused on the job at hand.

“[I have to bring] my A-game. As long as I stay focused and listen to my corner, I feel I have all the tools to be victorious on the night.”

Azonto as popularly referred to, also commended Lomachenko’s amateur record.

“What can I say that hasn’t already been said?,” he asked.

“His amateur record is unreal and he brought his skills into the pro ranks to become a three-weight world champion. He has it all and is a credit to the sport.” Commey stated.

“If you want to be the best you have to face the best and Lomachenko is certainly one of the best.” Richard Commey expressed.

With Commey – Lomachenko title-less showdown headlining the MSG on Saturday and Teofimo Lopez losing his unified Lightweight title to George Kamboso Jr, give credence to the argument that the Lightweight division is the hottest at the moment.

With Teofmi Lopez dethroned by George Kambosos Jr, it’s clear that the lightweight division is the hottest in all of boxing at the moment and Commey-Lomachenko title-less showdown is the best attestation to that argument.
