Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly elects Abdullah Odai as Presiding Member

The Okaikwei North Municipal Assembly, one of the newly created Assemblies carved from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly [AMA] has elected Honourable Abdullah Odai as its first Presiding Member and sworn into office all Government Appointees at a special meeting held at Abeka on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.

Honourable Abdullah Odai – Assembly Member for Wouyeman [Electoral Area] was the only Assembly Member who filed nomination to contest for the position, pulling thirteen [13] out of fifteen [15].

The elected Presiding Member [Abdullah Odai] together with three out of four Government Appointees were present to take the oath of office and the oath of secrecy which was administered by the Abeka District Magistrate, Her Worship Madam Victoria Akua Ghansah.

The Presiding Member promised to bring his over ten years experience as an Assembly Member to make the Assembly one of the best Municipality.

“As the first Presiding Member, I promise to bring my over ten years experience as an Assembly Member to make the Assembly one of the best Municipality.”

He urged all to bring hands on deck and work together to ensure the success of the Assembly.

He also called on Revenue Collectors to be diligent in the discharge of their duties, reminding them that the Assembly will need money to achieve its aim.

The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, Honourable Fuseini Issah in his speech indicated that as the process of formalizing the Assembly has started with the election of Presiding Member and the swearing in of Government Appointees.

He disclosed he is hopeful that the Assembly will have its Municipal Chief Executive before the weekends as the selection of MCE’s are ongoing at the Jubilee House.

“The selection of MCE’s is ongoing and I am hopeful that the Assembly will have an MCE before the end of the week”. This he said will enable the necessary structures to be put in place.

The MP admonished the role revenue play in the execution of activities in the Assembly and ask such eyes must be kept on the mobilization of revenue.

“Once we get it right, others will fall in place”.

He called on the newly elected Presiding Member to try to keep an open door policy to ensure that every opinion gets to him to deliberate and be able to take the best cause of action that will benefit the Assembly.

The Municipal Coordinating Director, Samuel Amoah and the Assembly Members were present at the meeting.
