BBC Champions Women’s Sport

The BBC has launched its Change The Game women’s summer of sport campaign, which seeks to celebrate female athletes.

The initiative will include the delivery of more free-to-air women’s sport than ever before across the BBC’s TV, radio and digital platforms this summer.

Specially-commissioned content such as behind-the-scenes television documentaries, iPlayer box sets, podcasts and original journalism will also be showcased.

The BBC unveiled two new rights deals for women’s sport as part of the announcement. The broadcaster will show daily highlights of golf’s Solheim Cup from Gleneagles, while it will also continue to show the Women’s FA Cup through to the end of the 2024-25 season.

The Change The Game campaign begins with this Saturday’s Women’s FA Cup final between Manchester City and West Ham United, which will be covered on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Radio 5 Live.

Barbara Slater, Director of BBC Sport, said: “The BBC prides itself on being the home of big sporting events and has always led from the front in supporting women’s sport across TV, radio and digital channels.

“This summer is a fantastic platform for women’s sport deserving of our unrivalled line-up of presenters, pundits and commentators to ensure audiences are given the best analysis and insight from every sport.”

Other major women’s sporting events lined up for this year include the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Wimbledon tennis championships, Netball World Cup, Women’s Ashes, British Open golf, cycling’s Road World Championships, the World Athletics Championships and World Para-athletics Championships.

The BBC acquired rights to this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in March 2017. It will provide coverage of every game across TV, radio and online during the tournament, which takes place in France from June 7th to July 7th.
