Through a statement, Guterres welcomed the renewed commitment that emerged at the joint meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (CEDEAO) and the Economic Community of Central African States (CEEAC), held in Togo, on July 30.

At the meeting, both organizations committed to strengthen cooperation in the main peace and security challenges, and decided to sign a Criminal Cooperation Agreement before the end of 2018, he recalled.

He referred to the establishment of a ministerial committee to oversee the implementation of the points approved at the joint summit.

The UN Secretary-General also welcomed the decision of the Heads of State and Government of the two regions to hold consultations on the sidelines of the African Union meeting in January, and to meet every two years to review the implementation of the adopted declaration in the summit.

In the same way, Guterres reiterated the commitment of the UN to continue promoting interregional cooperation and support the implementation of what was discussed at the joint CEDEAC-CEEAC summit.
