Ghanaian Journalist, Atta Owusu Senior has absconded from home for months having escaped from fatal physical attacks meted to him by unknown men believed to be hired by elders of his family for his failure to accepting a vacant kingship title – Linguist.
According to a source close to the family who would like to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the matter at hand, Atta was chosen by his family head to hold the position of Okyeame [Linguist] after the death of his uncle, but Atta declined the offer which has brought great tension between himself and elders of the family.
Answering why Atta would decline such as offer our source noted that Atta pointed out to the elders of the family that his Christian faith does not support the kind of traditional sacrifices he’ll offer should he accept the title.
He explained that as a result the Abusuapayin [family head] has sworn thunder and earth that he will do everything within his powers to make sure that Atta will be fished out from his hideout and dealt with accordingly because it’s the family’s turn to succeed that particular kinship title and that it’s non-negotiable so the earlier he [Atta] changes his mind and come home to perform the necessary rights and traditions the better for him.
He further reiterated that in their failed attempt to get hold of Atta, who left the community unceremoniously they have taken their anger to his wife and children with the aim that it could force him [Atta] to come from his hideout and surrender.
This will not be the first time Atta has been a subject of inhumane treatment. The www.sports24ghana.com reporter was in May 2022 seriously attacked for his reportage on a crunch Division One league game involving Tamale City FC and Baffour Soccer Academy.
According to Atta’s report, Tamale City’s team bus was attacked in Nsoatre after their 1-1 draw game. The frame of the windscreen got wiped off due to the incessant pelting of stones at the bus which resulted in some players sustaining various degrees of injuries.
Atta broke the story and promised to reveal the culprits who were behind that particular act in order for them to be brought to book.
Having heard the news, the suspected hooligans rather traced Atta, beat, and threatened him never to write anything about them in his subsequent reports if he wish to live and continue with his Journalism work in Ghana.
