Glasgow 2026: Eilish McColgan named 2026 Commonwealth Games Ambassador

Eilish McColgan has been unveiled as the first official Games Ambassador for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The announcement about the reigning 10,000m champion marks a major milestone with one year to go until the world returns to Glasgow for the 23rd edition of the Games.

Eilish’s journey on the Commonwealth stage is nothing short of iconic. From her early start at the Commonwealth Youth Games in 2008, to a steeplechase debut in Glasgow 2014 and gritty finals appearances in both the 1500m and 5000m at the 2018 Gold Coast Games.

However, Eilish solidified her place in sporting history at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where she stormed to gold in the 10,000m final in the Alexander Stadium.

Only days later, the Scot claimed silver in the 5000m — marking Team Scotland’s 500th medal in Games history. She was honoured as Scotland’s flag bearer for the Closing Ceremony, a proud emblem of dedication and excellence.

Now, as a Games Ambassador, Eilish steps into a new role: not just as an athlete, but as a leading figure for the Glasgow 2026 Games.

‘Honoured to be named an ambassador for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games,’ said Eilish on social media.

‘To help build excitement for a home Games in Glasgow feels full circle for me. I can’t wait to see the city come alive with sport, community and that unbeatable Scottish spirit.’

Eilish will be asked to play an influential role as a Glasgow 2026 Games Ambassador, engaging and inspiring communities, athletes and audiences across Glasgow and the wider Commonwealth.

The appointment marks a significant milestone in the countdown to 11 days of world-class action in Summer 2026, where Glasgow will once again take centre stage on the global sporting map.
