The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has learned with horror and outrage of yesterday’s massacre in the villages of Ogossagou and Welingara in the Mopti region, central Mali, killing at least 135 people, including women and children.
The Chairperson of the Commission strongly condemns this despicable attack on innocent and defenceless civilians. He offers his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Chairperson underlines the need to do everything possible to identify the perpetrators of this despicable attack and bring them to justice. It is crucial that strong measures be taken to address the root causes of this violence, the persistence of which can only further complicate ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability.
