Prince Estifanos Matewos Calls for Peace After Missing Global Baku Forum Amid Middle East Airspace Disruptions

Ethiopian Royal and African Union envoy Prince Estifanos Matewos has issued a message of peace and solidarity after being unable to attend the 13th Global Baku Forum, citing sudden travel disruptions linked to escalating tensions and airspace instability in parts of the Middle East.

‎In a letter addressed to the organizers of the Forum, the President of the United Africa Royal Assembly expressed regret at his absence from the high-level international gathering, explaining that rapidly evolving security conditions and unexpected disruptions to regional airspace forced him to revise his travel plans at very short notice.

‎He had been scheduled to participate as a panelist and had anticipated contributing reflections on the critical intersections of justice, mediation, peace, and security.

‎Prince Estifanos conveyed his gratitude to Ilham Aliyev for his patronage of the Forum and for the efforts undertaken to facilitate his participation.

‎He praised the work of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, which convenes the annual forum bringing together global leaders, policymakers, and scholars to deliberate on pressing international challenges.

Despite his absence, the African royal leader emphasized that promoting peace through dialogue and mediation remains central to the work of his office.

He noted that strengthening trust in global institutions and advancing inclusive and sustainable solutions are essential priorities during what he described as a period of profound geopolitical uncertainty.

‎Prince Estifanos also extended congratulations to the recipients of the Nizami Ganjavi International Award for 2026, praising their contributions to international cooperation and human progress.

‎Reflecting on the current religious season observed by millions worldwide, he concluded his message with prayers for peace and stability.

During this blessed season of Ramadan and Lent, I offer my sincere prayers for enduring peace and prosperity, and for all peoples affected by the unfolding tensions within the region and beyond,” he wrote, invoking divine guidance for global leaders and calling for harmony and shared prosperity among nations.
