Ogunsola Ayooluwa Folakunmi: Youth climate activist aims to stage largest climate protest in Africa

Ogunsola Ayooluwa Folakunmi, 21 year old is an Executive volunteer at  Eco Diversified International as the Youth Zonal southwest Coordinator which is an organization that prioritizes Sustainability and Environmental conservation. His key goals are to actively contribute to Climate action, Quality Education, Gender Equality, and No poverty in Africa starting from his country Nigeria. One of his major accomplishments to date is having carried out a Sustainability conference that featured more than 180 delegates from more than 10 countries across the world. This has served as a steppingstone in the broader scope of Sustainability.

Passion

Apart from academia, Ogunsola Ayooluwa Folakun has also developed a key interest in Environmental education and climate action which is part of his academic field. He recently became the  South West-Youth Zonal Coordinator for Eco diversified international, which was recently represented at the Youth sustainable Development Conference. He has also carried out a conference through Geoacademy a platform that prioritizes Environmental Education across youths in Africa. Ogunsola partnered with organizations like Raytreatat, Fussy, Biopreneur environmental sustainability team, a green, and Eco Diversified International to create one of the most enlightening programs on sustainability and Innovation in Africa which had about 180 delegates in Africa across more than 10 regions of the world. It was indeed a dream come true carrying out an event that encourages individuals across Africa not just to be creative but to be sustainable solution providers in their respective countries.

Problem

Every year the effects of climate change and environmental degradation keeps on looming in our communities. We are the first generation to ever feel the effects of climate change on our health, agriculture, lifestyles, and culture directly. Within the next two decades, global temperatures are likely to rise 1.5 degrees Celsius. This means that the heatwaves, wildfires, droughts, floods, and other extreme weather have come to stay. Yet, worse outcomes like the warming of 4 degrees Celsius and the collapse of ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica can be avoided if action is taken now.

Solution

The climate crisis can no longer be ignored or avoided. It is up to each of us to do what we can to reduce our carbon footprints and get our world leaders and the business community to alter course. That’s why I’m calling out all NGOs, individuals, climate activists, governmental bodies for a Sustainability conference on climate change and environmental degradation conference in December which will feature the largest climate change protest on Twitter by Africans, and other events to help improve our planet.
